From 2019, students will be able to take the National Level
competitive examination JEE main (Joint Entrance Examination) and NEET
(National Eligibility cum Entrance Test) twice a year. According to most
experts it would be better for those students who miss a chance to take the
first examination or those who are not satisfied with their scores first time
around.
As part of bringing major reforms in the examination system,
MHRD (Ministry of Human Resource Development) announced that from now the
National Testing Agency (NTA) will be conducting these national level entrance
examinations instead of Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE). First
examination to be conducted by NTA will be the University Grants Commission’s
National Eligibility Test (UGC NET). All these entrance exams will be conducted
in the CBT mode i.e. Computer Based Test.
In a press conference which organized on July 14 this year
at New Delhi, the Union HRD Minister Prakash Javadekar has announced some major
changes in the examination system such as apart from JEE (Main), NEET and UGC
NET, the NTA will also conduct Graduate Pharmacy Aptitude Test (GPAT) and
Common Management Admission Test (CMAT) from next year i.e. from 2019.
This is one of the major reforms in the examination system
of the country to be implemented for the first time by the NTA. NTA will start
conducting examinations from December 2018, first being UGC-NET. NTA will
announce the dates for examination in due course of time. The major change
going to happen is that the JEE Main and NEET will be conducted twice a year.
With this change in the examination system, students will also get a chance to
select the dates and centers of their choice for the examination.
As per the HRD Minister, JEE Main is likely to be scheduled
for months of January and April every year while NEET will be conducted in the
months of February and May. To avoid cheating and leakage of paper, the
question papers on each day will be different and may vary from candidate to
candidate. However, the difficulty level in each session of the examination
will remain the same.
All the sets are prepared by highly expert faculties and are
prepared in a scientific manner by experts, researchers, statisticians,
Psychometricians, test designers and education specialists. To stop leakage of
question paper and timely delivery of the question papers, these examinations
will use highly secured IT software and encryption.
For UGC NET, the online submission of application form is
likely to start from September 01, 2018 and the examination will be conducted
from December 2 to December 16, 2018. For JEE Main examination, registrations
will commence from September 01, 2018 and ends on September 30, 2018 and the
exam is likely to be held in January 2019 and the results will be declared in
the first week of February 2019. For NEET, the application forms will be
available from the October 01, 2018 to October 31, 2018 and NEET 2019 will be
held in the month of February 2019.
Some highlights of this major decision taken by the HRD
Ministry are given below:
JEE Main, NEET and UGC-NET to be conducted by NTA
JEE Main and NEET will be conducted twice a year from JEE Main 2019
Exams will be conducted in CBT mode.
Same student can take the exam both times a year and the
best score out the two will be considered for seat allocation.
Experts' Reactions on Centre's Decision
As per the analysis made on the basis of social media
websites people are welcoming this decision of giving the charge of conduction
these national level entrance examination to NTA. Some of the important points
made from the expert’s reactions on social media are given below:
Students are confused with the decision of conducting JEE
Main and NEET twice a year but coaching centers are welcoming this decision as
this will increase the number of students getting admitted to their centers.
As per the experts, this decision will give a second chance
to students who are not been able to secure good marks in the first attempt.
Now, students won’t be able to wait for an year to improve
their ranks.
In my opinion also, this is a welcoming decision and student
friendly decision taken by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (HRD
Ministry) as it gives students an opportunity to grab their dreams of becoming
a successful Doctor or an Engineer. As seen from NEET 2017 and CBSE Class 10
and Class 12 2018 examinations, it is clear that CBSE has failed in conducting
examinations. So, the Govt. has decided to transfer the responsibility of
conducting the National Level Entrance Examinations to the National Testing
Agency (NTA). So, Let’s hope for the best. All that we can do is to wait and
watch as how NTA is going to handle the responsibility given by the Govt. of
India.
